AI Search & Discovery

Indexa

Recover the sales your Shopify search is losing.

Nearly half your shoppers use search, and they convert well above average — until a typo or a plain-language query dead-ends. Indexa is managed AI search that catches them: typo-tolerant, semantic, tuned for your catalog.

What it is

Indexa is a fully managed AI search and discovery service for Shopify stores. It isn't an app you install and configure: we stand up a dedicated search instance, sync your catalog across every language you sell in, and keep tuning relevance from real search data. You get a no-code console and a storefront that finally finds the product.

The engine combines typo-tolerant keyword search with semantic search over 256-dimension vectors, backed by a three-level fallback so results never go dark. Plain-language queries are translated into the right facets — gender, size, colour, category — and merchandisers can rearrange the grid by dragging products, with changes live in about a minute.

The problem

Internal search is the highest-converting surface on the store and almost always the least cared for.

Around 43% of visitors use the search bar, and searchers convert at close to twice the site average. Then someone types "jmper" instead of "jumper", or "something warm for winter", and native search returns nothing. That visitor had explicit purchase intent and left: the most expensive, most silent loss a store has.

What it does

Query understanding

Plain-language queries become the right filters — gender, size, colour, category — with typo tolerance and synonyms baked in. No exact keywords required.

Semantic search

Vector search surfaces the right products even when the query shares no words with your titles, with a keyword fallback so results are always fast and safe.

Typo tolerance and synonyms

Fuzzy and phonetic matching plus bilingual synonym dictionaries: "felpa" finds hoodie, "scarpe" finds sneakers, "jeans" finds denim.

Visual merchandising

Pick a query or a category and the real product grid loads — photos, titles, prices, sale and sold-out badges. Drag products into position, hide the ones you don't want, restore them later from a tray. No product IDs, no code.

Pin without breaking filters

Pinned products hold their position while everything else keeps ranking normally: pinning decides order, not membership, so a pinned product still respects the category's own filters.

Saving is publishing

No separate publish step: changes reach the storefront in about a minute, and the preview builds its query through the same shared module as the storefront, enforced by an automated test.

Recommendations

Best sellers, related products and "also viewed", built on the same index, to extend the session beyond a single search result.

Analytics that show the gaps

Top queries, zero-result searches and CTR: the data you need to see what customers look for and don't find, and to tune relevance accordingly.

How it works

  1. 01

    We onboard you

One command spins up your dedicated search instance and syncs your Shopify catalog, in every language you need.

  2. 02

    We tune relevance

Weights, synonyms and semantic search tuned to your catalog from real search data, plus the visual grid editor for merchandising search and category pages.

  3. 03

    You drop in the snippet

Native to your Shopify Hydrogen storefront: your existing search UI, powered by Indexa, with a keyword fallback underneath.

  4. 04

    We keep tuning

Sync runs on real-time webhooks with a nightly reindex, and relevance is revisited as search data accumulates.

Who it's for

Large, seasonal catalogs

Fashion and retail with tens of thousands of SKUs, where the category grid is where merchandisers actually spend their day.

Multi-language stores

Anyone selling in several languages who needs synonyms, typo tolerance and query understanding to work in each of them, not just in English.

Stores that outgrew native search

Shops that hit the ceiling of Shopify's built-in search, or want out of pay-per-request pricing without giving up control of their own data.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Indexa?
A fully managed AI search and discovery service for Shopify. We stand up a dedicated instance, sync your catalog, and keep tuning relevance for you. You use a no-code console; we do the heavy lifting.
Is it self-serve?
No, deliberately. Onboarding and tuning are done by us on your real catalog, because that's where result quality is decided. It starts with a free audit, then a 30-day pilot on real traffic.
How long does onboarding take?
The dedicated instance and catalog sync come up quickly; the part that takes time is relevance tuning, which starts from real search data and continues over the following weeks.
Can the search go down?
There's a three-level fallback: if the semantic layer doesn't answer it drops to keyword, and ultimately to native search. The goal is that a shopper always sees results.
Can I migrate from Algolia?
Yes. We read your existing rules and bring pins and hidden products across into the new index, showing a report of what will be applied before applying it.
Does my catalog data stay mine?
Yes. The service is built on your Storefront API and a dedicated search instance: no black box and no lock-in through per-request pricing.
